Brow Lift- Forehead Lift

The Forehead Lift

In many cases, a forehead lift is done to reverse the signs of aging.
It is also effective for surgically altering particular inherited traits.
And it can be helpful for young adults who have a low brow or
deep frown lines.

Is Forehead Lift Surgery Right For You?

You are considered a good candidate for forehead lift surgery if you have:

  • deep horizontal lines in the forehead
  • sagging or low eyebrows, which give the effect of fatigue or sadness
  • frown lines, or furrows, between the eyebrows

The visible signs of aging generally begin in the face. And most people seeking approval for a forehead lift procedure say that their faces no longer make them look as young as they feel.

The Forehead Lift Procedure

Over the years, the forehead lift procedure has evolved, and now surgeons generally use endoscopic techniques. The procedure usually involves incisions in the hair-bearing scalp. Then the skin and deeper layers are attached to the bone. The aim is to reverse the effects of gravity and to tighten the soft tissues in the forehead in order to create a more youthful facial contour.

The Risks of Forehead Lift Surgery

It is rare for complications to arise from forehead lift surgery. Every year, thousands of people have the procedure done and the results are successful. But as with any type of surgical procedure, there are inherent risks. Some of the potential complications that may occur include infection, hematomas (an accumulation of blood under the skin), and reactions to anesthesia.

What to Expect on the Day of Your Surgery

Your forehead lift may be performed in a hospital, an office-based surgical suite, or a free-standing ambulatory center. Prior to your surgery, you and your plastic surgeon will choose which type of anesthesia is best for you – either a general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Following your surgery you will be taken to a recovery area. You may have a bandage wrapped around your forehead.

Forehead lift surgery causes little discomfort. Due to this, you may be allowed to go home within hours of your surgery.

The Recovery Period

The recovery time is different for everyone who has forehead lift surgery. Elevation of the head is extremely helpful in reducing the initial post-operative swelling. Your surgeon may also advise you to use ice packs intermittently.

What Will I Look Like After Surgery?

You may experience puffiness and discoloration in some parts of your face, but this is normal. Swelling and bruising emerges within 24 to 48 hours of the procedure, and goes away in about two weeks. You may have some numbness in your forehead, which may take several months to resolve.

You must avoid any bending and lifting during the early post-operative period, as these activities may cause bleeding.

Your incision scars will fade in about six months.

The Cost of a Forehead Lift

The cost of a forehead lift can vary depending on where your surgeon is located and his or her level of experience. The fees that you will be responsible for include: the surgeon's professional fee and the fees for the facility, the anesthesia, any tests you have done, the surgical scrubs, and your medications.
